ABOUT VILLAGE WELFARE SOCIETY
It Started with a Need
In 1978, the floods that swept through rural Howrah left many families struggling to rebuild their lives. In those difficult days, a group of local young people came together to help. They brought what they could — their time, their hands and their willingness to stand beside families in need. When the waters receded, the need did not disappear. Families still had to find their way forward. The volunteers began to see that real help was not only about getting through one difficult day, but about giving people a chance to rebuild with dignity and hope. That spirit gave birth to Village Welfare Society. In 1982, the organisation was formally established, carrying forward a simple belief that remains with us today: listen to people, stand beside them and work together for a better tomorrow.
